Vacuum Generator Fabrication - 7-8 Aug 2010

Posted by XenaCommander on August 8, 2010 at 4:09 AM

Another productive weekend.   TK had her reconstruction surgery last thursday and wants to recover down in Turangi so I picked her up from the hospital on friday and drove her down to the bach.    Of course while I was down there it was a great chance to get some work done on the truck.

Last week I started working on a bracket for the vacuum generator.   This weekends mission was to finish it and mount it.

Pic above shows the new Dometic Sealand electric vacuum toilet....  I placed it in the location best suited for the toilet and  worked out where the vacuum generator needed to go.

A perfect spot..  between the chassis rails only a metre or so from the toilet and only 4 metres away from the black tank..    Well within the required distances...

Now get back to the construction...

XC cutting...   I love this engineering stuff..   Much more fun than sitting in front of a computer all day...

XC grinding...

XC welding...   With this combination of recently acquired skills I figure I can fabricate anything...   Cool huh.?

Trial fixing and measuring for final cross piece.   Frame clamped in place....

A coat of chassis black to blend in with the rest of the chassis...

Some ply for the base... There.. All done...  looks like a real professional job...    Now to fit the vacuum generator.

Generator in place....  Now all I need to do is fit it in place.

Perfect fit...    Mission accomplished...   I will hook it up to the toilet when the new floor is down and final location of toilet is known.  I will measure up and purchase pipes soon.

The rest of the time I spent fitting another brace to the bottom of the right hand fresh tank...  When I was under the truck the other weekend I noticed the bottom of the partly filled tank sagging..  I am sure the hercules tank would hold but no harm in giving it more support with plywood across the bottom.    All done now.

Next to finish rust killing work in the van...  not much there but want to clean it up before I fit the windows and floor.

Stay tuned...
